The Assistive Technology Services of JCISDAssistive Technology (AT) services in Jackson County are provided through a cooperative effort among the local districts, the Intermediate School District and other community and State agencies. In order to help support the local districts in the area of AT, JCISD provides the following through its Assistive Technology Resource Center:
The Assistive Technology Resource Center has a lending library of materials available to Special Education students attending schools within JCISD. The center circulates videos, books, and software helpful to students and their teachers. It also loans both low-tech and high-tech devices for students of varying abilities.
The loan materials provide teachers and students hands-on examination. Successful selection and use of devices are more likely to occur after a student is able to try the technology out in a natural setting. Since such trial periods often lead to more informed choices, local districts purchase technology intervention assured of its effective use.
